Wow what a cool site! I didn't realize Middletown had so many schools. Does anyone know when North school was torn down? I didn't know that North school was so close to South school.

Speaking of South School, it was good to see a picture of it.  Of course, South School was known to (and beloved by) many as the "original" Fenwick High School. I was a member of the Class of 1965, which was the last class to spend a full academic year at "old South".  We moved to the Manchester Road location during Thanksgiving break of 1962 (our class's sophomore year).

No wonder the hundreds of Fenwick grads from the classes of 1966 and earlier took umbrage with Mr. Price and his declaration that students "can't learn in old buildings!"
“Mulligan said he ... doesn’t believe they necessarily make the return on investment necessary to keep funding them.” …The Middletown Journal, January 30, 2012

It might be of some interest to those who weren't around then, that the picture "Central High School".... Central and Clark was the former city building after the high school days. It also housed CG&E for awhile before burning down. (Correct me if I'm wrong, Mike) The Blue Ball school sat right were Plaza 122 shopping area is now at 122 and Rt. 25 and occupied the land behind it also. It states that the old high school (Vail now) and the Wade E. Miller gym are "pending". To tear down the Wade E. with all it's athletic history would be a crime. It's still a fine gym and has the capacity. It has not reached it's dying days IMO.

Looks like the early 50's:

It is a shame that Roosevelt will soon be demolished, depite the fact that a charter school wanted to occupy it. Alternative uses like senior housing were not even considered.

McKinley was an even greater loss:

Thanks for the info! They just don't make buildings like that anymore.

As I recall, a charter school also wanted to occupy the old Jefferson School before it was demolished. Rumor was at that time the school system didn't want any more competition.
