Why is a power plant being built on the border of Monroe residential area less than 5280 feet from families with children? There was no letter of intent sent to Brittony Woods HOA or others on the border of a natural gas megawatt power plant.

Public disclosure is required if ever tapping the highly regulated gas pipe line, was never to be exposed above ground in crossing this region. Should there ever be a gas leak or worse it will utterly destroy our homes.

Secondly the harmonic noise decibel level of a 7/24 power plant is horrendous and will not be tolerated by Monroe residence.

any thoughts?

BTW: Not tolerated without some kind of environmental impact study disclosure and or concession such as providing electricity to the Monroe families without all these ridiculous delivery riders!

Yeah-y'all did  heckuva job stopping SunCoke back in the day.Suck it up and accept the fact that it's going to happen.

I think you're a little late to the party.  It's too late to fight that battle.  Besides, those same homeowners are a stones throw from AK Steel.  They knew it was an industrial area when they bought those homes.

BP101 stated that Monroe residents won't tolerate the noise-I compared this to the supremely unsuccesful attempt to stop the SunCoke project-they didn't stop the projrct then and they won't stop this one.

Perhaps a sound wall might help.

Walls are all the rage these days...

Actually Monroe stopped the coal fired power plant being built onto the coke plant. We do have days the coal smoke is so strong can not have windows open and burns our eyes throats, very hard to breath!

Point is Middletown tapped into the 3' diameter REX natural gas pipe line, it was never to be exposed above ground crossing the valley. So we are now living in a blast zone, kinetic energy will level these homes on Todd Hunter Rd. That constitutes wrong full endangerment as Murphy's law is real and sh*t will go wrong. No Ohio town should ever build a power plant less than 3 mile radius from residential homes any less is just asking for a legal battles.

No there was nothing but farm land 12 years ago and AK was 2 miles away. We have nights AK jet powered train is so loud it sounds like a tornado coming through windows, can not sleep it is so loud. Not to worry Butler taxes Monroe so high, technology joblessness so bad who would ever want to retire in Ohio hell bent on fossil fuels consumption.

I think you're a couple years behind the times on this one.  It has been widely publicized since at least January of 2014 that NTE was going to try to (and now actually) build the power plant in that location.

The project was vetted and approved by several regulatory agencies and has gone through an approval process that's taken over 2 years.  If you're just now finding out that's on you.

Not sure what your HOA has to do with this as they aren't a governmental or regulatory agency and have no authority or standing outside of its own boundaries.

Not to sound cruel BP101 but you did know that AK Steel, with all the noise of a steel mill was close to your location didn't you? You did know that the jet powered train was on the AK property didn't you? Looking around at the negatives in the surrounding areas is part of the house buying scenario isn't it? You also know that your Monroe community is expanding and the land that was farmland 12 years ago is now occupied by housing developments today. Look at the old farmland 20 years ago between Monroe and West Chester. When I was a kid 60+ years ago, it was all cow pasture clear down to I-275 as you went south on I-75. We all know it is becoming more congested as time moves forward. Same principle here.

A similar situation came up years ago when the people around the tracks on old Manchester Rd. encountered train whistles at all hours of the night. The city remedied that problem by banning trains from blowing the horns as they pass through the city. Now, not only has the ban been lifted and the trains sound the horns at all hours, but the speed of the trains through the city have been increased from 25 MPH to 40 MPH recently. First thoughts from anyone analyzing this is to ask why the people bought so close to the tracks that have been there since the 40's and why didn't they think the trains would sound the horns at the Manchester crossing and add major vibration to the surrounding homes? Likewise, why didn't the folks who bought close to AK not think there would be some negative residuals living only two miles from the mill?

Unfortunately, you and others made a conscience decision to buy in your current location and, given that fact, are now experiencing your decision first hand. You have no choice but to take responsibility for this and move if you can't adapt to it just as the Manchester Rd train crossing neighborhood needs to do.

It is not a pleasant consideration on your part but a choice needs to be made here by the folks who are upset.

I'm so proud of my hometown and what it has become. Recall 'em all. Let's start over.

Relief is on the way.  I hear from reliable sources that AK will soon be replacing their jet-powered train with a new, much quieter one powered by a nuclear-fueled hemulator.

Point is the NTE didn't notify local residence (by mail) within 1 mile radius constructing a lethal weapon so close to human habitation!

Monroe city commissioners did not notify home owners living so close to a lethal blast zone located 2500' from residential homes. That is wrongful endangerment on two counts.

Many are calling for 50% coal burn be added reducing potential for a major gas explosion. Mandate the NTE to disclose the harmonic sound level study they did to qualify building such a structure proximity to human habitation. Homes were here first so they have to purchase all in the blast zone radius under emanate domain laws.

Middletown city engineer/council have lost their minds thinking building an Energy Center constitutes a commercial safe zone to be located within 3500' of residential homes in Monroe. Move it West there are no homes within 3 miles radius or buy all the homes South of Todd Hunter road up to RT63. That only gives less than 1 mile blast zone radius for any kinetic energy that could be released in a gas explosion. That still will not reduce the sound level or low frequency harmonic ground vibrations such a large mass generator will produce miles in all directions.

Turban train is only bad at times when they come close to Todd Hunter road. We can live with it if they stop tooting that dang broken horn. The diesel train often sits Est/Wst tracks, hardly ever here it idling blow it's very low soft horn in early AM.

Hard to believe anything nuclear being put into trains or even flying under HSA,NTSA,EPA radars.

First of all the reply function does not show who to the reply was made. That is counter intuitive to a reply button function in each post.

We are still awaiting proper disclosure via mail 2014-2016 from Middletown, Butler or Warren county of intent to build such a dangerous facility close proximity to residential homes. Again this act of blatant disregard for human life constitutes wrongful endangerment on their behalf. The energy center was also located close proximity to a school near 1.75 mile radius where hundreds of students attend on a daily basis.

I don't think people fully understand the potential for a major explosion simply from tapping into REX pipe line extracting huge CCF volumes of natural gas in a jetted BURN FIRE 7/24/365.

Man you need to take this to the FB forums. That's where action starts. Middletown Talk, Middletown talk, Trenton talk.

>>Should post this on FB:

Already have but our HOA is missing a president. Several members are for mandating Butler preform emanate domain proceedings or give a 50% tax millage cut lieu of property values being impacted from the noise MEC power generation will very likely produce.

Even if MEC produces 45-60 decibels as disclosed in the NTE report, at night sound travels for miles and double pain glass vibrates at low frequency amplifying any nearby low frequency sounds. Like the AK steel jet powered Train was going all night long and the NTE sound survey used the jet powered train as an example of expected ambient background noise level.

You know if you guys don't like living in the area for whatever reason... you can always move away. That what I did and I do not miss Middletown at all. Too many issues.

>> To many issues of corruption and excessively high property taxes in Butler sure make moving away sound an easy option.

We vested heavily in this community our early adult life savings not to be railroaded into silence by the Butler Power Plant planning commission. State representative Candis Keller office is looking into why MEC proposal was not on the voting ballot since it likely impacts regional energy rates etc...

MEC/NTE horrific volumes of natural gas use (REX/TEX)enormous gas mains and speed of oxygen burn will dwarf local homes/business use for heating in the winter. Not sure where Green Peace stands this issue but think un-natural oxygen burn ranks up there with Co2 production. They were instrumental in shutting down coal burning power plants for excessive Co2 production yet the Oxygen burn rate of alternative energy sources was never considered in that process.
