New store to open at Middletown’s Towne Mall

MIDDLETOWN —
The owner of Middletown’s Towne Mall Galleria announced Monday the signing of discount retailer Gabe’s as the mall’s newest tenant.

Gabe’s is a discount fashion, home décor and housewares retailer offering brand name goods at up to 70 percent off department and specialty store prices, according to a press release from the city.

The new Middletown location is expected to open in October, according to the joint announcement from the mall owner and the city.

Renovation of a 57,347-square-foot space is currently underway. Construction includes a new façade, roof, walls, floors and ventilation systems.

Together with Burlington, which opened this past March, the signing of this lease with Gabe’s means that 100 percent of the space previously occupied by Dillard’s is now back in use.

“Three years ago, we committed to fully occupying Towne Mall, and piece by piece, we are delivering on that promise,” said George Ragheb, vice president of property owner Towne Mall Galleria LLC, in a written statement.

“We have five, brand new outparcels that we are developing and the balance of the mall space to lease. Later this summer, we will have more announcements to make. We are fully committed to ensuring this is a very successful project and a very enjoyable shopping destination for the residents of the Middletown community,” Ragheb said.

Owned by Gabriel Brothers Inc., a privately-held company based in Morgantown, West Va., the Middletown Gabe’s will be the company’s 18th Ohio location. It brings to nearly 50 the number of Gabe’s stores opened across Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia since the company’s founding in 1961. Gabriel Brothers also owns 59 Rugged Wearhouse stores across nine states.

Towne Mall Galleria is located near Middletown’s Interstate 75 and Ohio 122 interchange.

“This will be the first Gabe’s store in our market, and its arrival is an important step forward as it will fill the former Dillard’s building,” said Denise Hamet, Middletown’s director of economic development, in a written statement. “The Gabe’s format has been very successful and the store’s product line will complement Burlington’s clothing and home goods assortment, providing a very synergistic retail experience.”
