Sewer system upgrade will cost taxpayers
Middletown one of many Ohio cities that require infrastructure work

MIDDLETOWN — Reducing the amount of overflow from a city’s combined sewer system is being mandated by the federal government and that will likely require tens of millions of dollars to be spent upgrading Middletown’s system.
The upgrade will likely force the city to increase sewer rates again for property owners, city officials said. Sewer rates have increased in Middletown by 25 percent since 2008, with the last increase being a 5 percent this year.

Middletown Public Works and Utilities Director Dave Duritsch said it would be nice to have that extra money, but it’s something the city can’t count on yet.
“Obviously we’re going to continue to watch that and see what comes of it,” he said, “but at this point, we work with what we have in front of this and right now it’s rates.”

But whatever direction the city takes, sewer rates will increase, Duritsch said.
“Once you work through those issues to talk about what you can do (in the long term control plan), (the funding) will be tied back into rate increases,” Duritsch said.

THE ANSWER FOR EVERYTHING WITH THESE CLOWNS IN THE CITY BUILDING. JUST BEAT THE PEOPLE TO PIECES WITH TAX RATE INCREASES, INCOME TAX INCREASES, GOVERNMENT TOWN TRASHING PROGRAMS OR FINES TO GENERATE REVENUE TO RUN THE DAM CITY. NO THINKING AHEAD. NO BUDGETING FOR THINGS LIKE THIS. NO FUNDS SET UP. NO INCOME FROM JOB CREATION. JUST KNEE-JERK REACTION FINANCE METHODS LIKE BLEEDING THE PEOPLE'S WALLETS DRY. DISGUSTING DURITSCH.
