From the Journal...."The student, a senior on the Middies boys basketball team, was arrested Dec. 2 at the high school after the school resource officer, Phil Salm, received a tip that the student was sending obscene text messages — or “sexting” — and took him to the office where his phone was inspected".

"Middletown High School students are permitted to carry cell phones, but students are not to have them out in class or use them during the school day, Alberico said. It is recommended that kids leave them in their lockers".

Wouldn't be an issue if the school had a rule telling all students to leave the cells at home and the parents to make sure their kids left them at home. We as a society, keep getting more soft as time goes by as to what we allow the young people to have and do. We took corporal punishment out years ago and are paying the price in out of control activity and disrespect for authority figures. Now, as technology advances, we are allowing them to have cell phones at school, telling them........

"It is recommended that kids leave them in their lockers". No, if the school people insist on letting them have cell phones at school, it is MANDATORY, not recommended, they leave them in their lockers or they will be confiscated, parents called at work with the stipulation they come and get their kid and expulsion if they have a cell in school again. Time to quit treating the kids like they are in Candyland people. You ain't doing them any favors when they get out in this big old harsh cruel world where they won't be pampered like this. The real world with "not-so-kind rules may just smack them square in the face and mommy and daddy won't be around forever to bail them out.

Yep! Same with Ipods and music headphones plugged into their ears incessantly... It is no wonder the district keeps falling behind with the leadership asleep at the wheel, and allowing those with no education to dictate to those that do have one. Did anyone see the release that American kids are graduating without even being able to pass a basic skills test that qualifies them for military service? We are raising a generation of: not my job, not my fault, not my responsibilty, from each according to his ability, to each according to his need... giblet heads. Not all, but enough to cause damage. Parents, stop being your kids' friend. Be a parent and demand personal responsibilty and excellence.

What is the purpose of a kid having a call phone anyway ? To them it's nothing but a toy to play with,it comes with games and access to the internet so what exactly is the purpose ??

The schools are major failures when it comes to the rules anyway. In my day you got a wooden paddle across your backside if you screwed up,now days they don't even do a smack on the hand,it's "child abuse". What a crock of bull !! I say line all those kids up make'em bend over and bust their friggin a**'s whether they need it or not !!
