Ann Arbor school district looking into legality and principal's actions in black-only field trip

The Ann Arbor school district is investigating the actions - and legality - surrounding a http://www.annarbor.com/news/black-student-only-field-trip-sparks-controversy-at-ann-arbor-elementary-school/ - field trip organized exclusively for black students at Dicken Elementary School last week.

Superintendent Todd Roberts said the idea to take 30 black students to hear a special presentation by a black University of Michigan scientist was well-intentioned. But Roberts conceded the execution of that trip and its aftermath might not have been appropriate.

One aspect of the investigation is how Principal Mike Madison handled students who were upset about being excluded, Roberts said Wednesday. Two of Roberts’ top administrators - LeeAnn Dickinson Kelley, the district’s elementary administrator, and Liz Margolis, the district’s communications director - will be at Dicken tonight to hear from parents and offer answers.

It has been my experience based on previous feedback from previous supers, that in events such as this, where the school officials hold a public meeting, they will ask for input, listen intently, quickly brush aside any negativity, complaints or suggestions and leave followed by business as usual. In Middletown, so far, it has been a complete waste of time to attend in situations where the public has been invited if the intent of your attendance is to find fault with their decisions.(unless, of course, you are in total agreement with them and a "friend of the schools".

Our whole educational system as we have today is off track of the basic  teaching. We are more interested in  new schools and being politcaly correct, than turning out good students ready for work or collage.
