The Middletown Journal Facebook Page is asking the following question:
"Middletown Mayor Larry Mulligan will give his annual State of the City Address Tuesday night at Cincinnati State Middletown. What would you like him to address?"

The streets and why they have been neglected for so long.
The special attention given to the downtown and the surrounding area while the rest of the town seems to have been forgotten about. Why a better effort hasn't been made to get decent paying jobs in here. Why the city leaders decided to more than double the Section 8 making this town ghetto-like and knowing the damage it will do. Why city leaders follow the guidance of a select few while ignoring the majority's wants and needs. Why the blase attitude about the increase in crime in the city. |

I'm so proud of my hometown and what it has become. Recall 'em all. Let's start over.

I would like to know why:
...we have a street sweeper, that appears to be of ZERO effectiveness, yet no leaf pickup? ...I paid a minimum due water bill when I moved in, yet only had four days left in the month? ...leash laws are not enforced and dogs poop in my yard and threatened my kids on a number of occasions? ...my neighbor got got an orange (hard to remove) sheet of paper stuck to his window demanding a bush be trimmed, yet the abandoned house down the street constantly has grass 2 feet tall, and no orange sticker....? ...my friend got a bill for sidewalk repair done THREE years before he moved into his house?

His response will probably be "We,ll check on that and get back to you" That's what they all say when asked a question of city council, of course you never hear from them.

Middletown Journal Editor, Construction contractors are trying hard to use up the Middletown community block grant monies for their greedy endeavors when they don't even live here. They build (or demolish), take our money, and leave. I think the idea on the movie theatre needs to be evaluated carefully with reliable sources while processing statistical data about Middletown specific neighborhood needs. There are 7 neighborhoods in Middletown in desperate need of renovation and rehabilitation (Amanda/Oneida, Avalon, Mayfield (including Applewood), Oakland, Riverside, and South. The Renaissance neighborhood is not one that is in dire need. We have an extremely large number of families within the 7 neighborhoods that need attention in several different fronts facing crime, rehabilitation, demolition, home buying, and assets. I would prefer an investment strategy focused around these 7 neighborhoods be addressed, and the jobs issue addressed, before we look to build large new construction that will not generate enough revenue compared to the value that our PEOPLE and FAMILIES will get by obtaining a home, not being scared, and ability for those neighborhoods to walk to entertainment provided within walking distance. My personal preference would be a family centered approach for movies through the summer such as the drive-in where we have heritage and a entire family can go for a reasonable amount and small children can play on a playground, instead of the large ticket price of a new facility that will not come close to filling up. The ones ten miles away don't even fill up and they are in a much more dense population area than Middletown. Our focus needs to be on families. Elizabeth Darcy Martin - I live here, I care, and I am running for City Council. |

I have a solution for abandoned homes. We have lots of people needing homes!! Instead of letting more people move out of the area and instead of letting our homeless stay homeless, and instead of investing in commercial interest groups who don't live here...we can invest in our families, increase our pride, and solve issues at the heart of it. We have 345 properties owned in Middletown by the State of Ohio. Seize the properties for small business start up or help folks in the high need areas obtain the homes, refurbish to meet health code standard and wha-la the housing problem, abandonment problem, and happiness of families all solved!
It's about people working cooperatively.
