Atrium Medical Center has been under official construction for 2 1/2 years now, and in little more than a week it will be opening for business. From everything I've read and heard about Premier Health Campus it seems like Middletown is going to be home to some of the most state of the art facilities in the country. This hospital and the business that springs up around is Middletown's future, as much as AK Steel is our past.

All the more reason why I can't understand why CBL didn't move forward with the mall renovation, go figure.

How dumb to be moving the hospital during the busiest season of the year!!
My dad went to ER on Saturday and they were PACKED with people - most with bronchitis and pneumonia. Add to that the stress of the holidays and heart attacks. (dad possibly had a stroke - 3 days later they still don't know!!) Plus they are not cleaning or caring for the old hospital at all which is scary for the current patients. They kept my dad and today WE had to transport him to a specialist in Cincinnati because the doctor wouldn't come there or the hospital couldn't provide transport!! They couldn't even find a walker for him and he nearly tripped in the crowded, messy hallway. Plus the there was a fan on the floor of his room for the other patient - again a fall hazard (no sign). If something does happen to him, I'll make sure he has a permenant private room at the Atr$um!!
There is NO excuse to abandon proper care just cause they are busy with moving. Many patients are complaining no one is doing their job because they are preoccupied.
Whatever you do - don't get sick for a couple more weeks!!

I noticed many of the same things on a visit I made to the old hospital a few months back. It sounds like it has only gotten worse. Best of luck with your dad. |

Haven't been to Middletown Regional for awhile myself, it's really sad that they're slacking like that. I'm sure they figure "what's the point?"

I had a heart attack the end of April and went to Middletown Regional Hospital. To say the least they saved my butt. The ER was great and very fast to take care of me. I was then transferred to Christ Hospital, where I contracted a Staph infection in the OR. After being discharged from Christ I ended up back in Middletown Regional for 8 days with the Staph infection. The hospital was great, the room was far better and cleaner than what I had at Christ Hospital. The staff at Middletown was also great. The surgeon who ended up operating to remove the staph infection did a wonderful job and his followup care was excellent. I can't say enough about the treatment that I received at Middletown Hosptial and I would not have a second thought about going back there. I went into Cardio Rehab for 2 months after my heart attack and found the hospital which I visited 3 times a week up until the day before Thanksgiving to be clean and the Staff was excellent. I have also been to Middletown Regional for numerous tests related to my Heart Attack and each time I found the rooms clean and the people did an excellent job. This is a transition period and I am sure The Atrium will carry on the excellent care that I received at Middletown Regional Hospital.

I know Middletown's ER has one of the best supervising nurses around - Melinda Dennis. She was nominated for Nurse of the year 2007. When she is in the ER - it's not a bad place to be! She's simply awesome!!
I'm sure Dad's shoddy care has to do with moving but the whole experience was horrible. His trip to the Cinti Eye Insititute was nearly a disaster. He started going into insulin shock. He was really out of it and doesn't remember being there at all. He'd been having trouble the last few days getting the nurses to give him insulin on a regular basis and it's hard to believe they sent him out on his own without eating. They ran more neuro tests when he got back but sent him home the next day at 9pm (yesterday) and told him they'd have to schedule a heart echo some other time and wait for a call!!! The man had a stroke and is blind fer crissake and they recommended no in home care or rehab!

Zea14, Sounds like you need to get on the phone with your Dad's primary physician and get something going. At least I would do something , anyting, as opposed to waiting for some one to get back with me. Pacman, Great post and it is always worth remembering that no matter how "bad" we think things in |

yeah Zea you need to shake them up. I am also a diabetic and when I was there for 8 days they were all over me testing blood sugar ever 6-8 hrs. The only benefit is that I am on an Insulin pump so I didn't have to rely on them for insulin shots.

I recently learned some new information about the extent of support the hospital will be receiving in the move. Find out more at Thursday's News in Five Minutes.

Atrium Medical Center has now been up and running for over four months! How does everyone feel about the new hospital? Being healthy like an ox has precluded me from making a visit, but I've heard a lot of good things.
