Weekly Update to City Council from the City Manager March 29, 2009
Wednesday, April 1, 2009 9:40:24 AM - Middletown Ohio
City Managers ReportPolice Newsletter
The Division of Police is now publishing a monthly newsletter.  It really looks great and has a lot of interesting info. The February edition is attached.

Income Tax Revenues Down
We are watching the income tax revenues on a weekly basis.  While I’m not pressing the panic button, we are beginning to discuss ways of adjusting spending for the remainder of this year.  Revenues are down from YTD 2008 by about $334,000, some (not ALL, but some) of this may be that residents and businesses are holding on to their funds until the last minute.   We will have a more accurate picture after April 15.  Staff and Council have been through the contingency planning many times before.  Our Council Finance Committee, headed by Bill Becker, will be working closely with staff over the next couple of months to develop plans.

The other item worth mentioning is that while we hope that the Sun Coke project will get started this year, we may not see the tax benefit this year as we had anticipated.

Front Yard Parking
Mr. Armbruster asked at a recent Council meeting that we discuss prohibiting parking on unpaved areas.  We will present information that we have on other cities at the next meeting.  We most likely will recommend that we prohibit parking in the front yards on unpaved areas.

Section 8 Update
We heard from CONSOC about a meeting later this week.  We hope to schedule one for Thursday to wrap up negotiations.

Place Matters
Thanks to the United Way, the Place Matters initiative is moving forward in three areas:  Downtown, Douglass Park and Damon Park.  We have some very talented folks working with us to develop plans for revitalization of the three areas with the involvement of the residents/businesses in the areas.

Flip This Town
We have an exciting new series on TV Middletown called Flip This Town!  Thanks to the many people working on the top quality production.  This is something that we can all be proud of and excited about.  This show highlights the many positive things happening in Middletown!  Here is a link to the show http://tvmiddletown.blip.tv/#1935646
