Vail Middle School eighth grader, Bob Dyer, has been notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2007 Ohio Geographic Bee, sponsored by JPMorgan Chase. Bob, son of Jason and Meg Dyer of Middletown, won the Vail Middle School competition of the National Geographic Bee in January and then took a qualifying test, which was submitted to the National Geographic Society. In each of the 50 states and in the territories, the National Geographic Society invited the students with the top 100 scores to compete at the state level.
The 2007 Ohio Geographic Bee will be held at The Ohio State University, Mansfield Campus on Friday, March 30, 2007. The state winner will represent Ohio in the national finals at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C., on May 22-23, 2007. The state winner receives $100 and the trip to Washington, D.C. The national winner will receive a $25, 000 college scholarship and a lifetime membership in the Society.
