As jobs are continual lost in the state of Ohio, the greater Cincinnati area has posted significantly less job losses than the state average. In a report released today by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Ohio’s unemployment rate was 7.6 percent for the month, up from 7 percent in November and 5.8 percent in December 2007. Twenty counties had unemployment rates of 10 percent or more in December, topped by Huron County at 13.5 percent. Butler County’s December rate was 6.6 percent, up from 6.2 percent in November and 5 percent year over year. The city of Hamilton matched the state averages for the month, previous month and year-ago period.
If you compare all of the state’s county averages, Butler County has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Ohio. Granted it’s not the greatest rate but with the changes taking place in Washington maybe the rate can drop even lower.
