Six Middletown residents are applying to be appointed to the open school board seat vacated by Dr. David Kabithe. It will be the first such appointment in 17 years for the board. Applicants include Reverend Gregory Tyus and A.J. Smith, both of whom failed in their bid to be elected to the board recently, Fred Sennet, former Mayor and board member, Janie Palmer and Kathleen Friend, both retired teachers, and Adam Gibbs, a 2007 Middletown High School Graduate.
The patient transfer from Middletown Regional Hospital to happen on the 9th will make use of ambulances from four counties. Crews and backup ambulances from Middletown, Monroe, Trenton, Turtlecreek Township, Germantown, JEMS, Franklin Township, and Carlisle will all be on hand to move the patients in a coordinated effort that is expected to last from 8 A.M. to 3 P.M. Middletown City Council has hired Judith A. Gilleland to be our new City Manager, starting January 7th. Gilleland is currently city manger in Pickerington, a suburb of Columbus, and her career in Municipal service has stretched nearly 25 years. She will earn $120,000 annually, and is the first woman to hold the city manager position in Middletown's history.
Mayor David Schiavone wants to bring citizens' comments back to TV Middletown. Citizens' comments were moved to the untelevised work session at the suggestion of Interim City Manager Steve Husemann. Mayor-elect Larry Mulligan disagrees, stating that he thinks the current model works well. Premier Health Campus will bring over 4,900 jobs to Warren County. With over 3,000 jobs being transferred from Middletown Regional Hospital and another 1,900 to be created, at an estimated $45,000 to $47,500 average yearly salary for an employee at the campus, over $220 million dollars payroll will be generated yearly. Middletown will still receive income taxes from hospital employees, and Warren County stands to benefit from sales taxes collected from businesses around the campus.
