Ed "Skeeter" Payne was one of LifeCenters many volunteers. He was the 246th patient to receive a heart transplant at The University Hospital in Cincinnati. Approximately four years and 7 months ago he was on the sixth floor of The University Hospital dying of congestive heart failure and hoping for a donor of a heart to become available. On July 30, 1998 his prayers were answered when he received a donor heart from a Mississippi resident.
