Now that the construction in finally completed at Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park all they have to do is get the art into its place before they open up the Museum of Antiquities for this summer. In an interview with Richard O. Jones from the Middletown Journal Harry Wilks said the work is still being catalogued. Between 60 and 70 works of ancient sculpture in the past decade prepare for the opening of the museum. It will be 265 acres of outdoor sculpture park.
Wilks also said that every one of the works of art is a true museum piece that he has purchased from Sotheby’s and Christie’s which means there are no reproductions. Both Sotheby’s and Christie’s are New York auction houses that guarantee both authenticity and provenance of the items to ensure that they are not stolen. Some items that he has been out-bid on can later be found at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Wilks did most of the designing of the 10,000 square foot museum himself and based it on buildings he had seen on his European travels. The main focus of the building will be on Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Etruscan sculpture.
