Ohio Challenge Hot Air Balloon Festival will be held on July 23, 24 and 25, 2004 at Smith Park in downtown Middletown, Ohio. The announcement of the very popular first year event’s future date confirms the continuity of the festival managed by the Chamber of Commerce of Middletown, Monroe and Trenton.
At a meeting of the Ohio Challenge executive committee, the reins of the organization were officially passed from the 2003 chairman, Dave Pearce of Bank One, to the 2004 chairman, Dan Sack, owner of Fourth R of Southwestern Ohio.
Mr. Sack said, “The Ohio Challenge got off to a fine start in 2003 and set the levels for future hot air balloon events in Middletown. I am taking over a very well-managed event with a bright future and I’m excited about the possibilities for an even better event in 2004. Each of the 2003 chairpeople have ideas to improve their operation and look forward to all the hard work it will take to top the 2003 event.”
To continue the smooth transition from year to year, Ginger Bruggeman of United Way will serve as co-chair in 2004 and assume the chairmanship in 2005.
While several adjustments will be made in 2004 to make the event even better, reports from committee chairs support the public opinion expressed during and after the 2003 event that hot air ballooning is welcome in Middletown and should continue as an annual event.
