On Tuesday, December 29, 2009 Randy Lewis, a local reporter for MiddletownUSA.com was interviewed again by Channel-Five News, for the follow up story on Barbie Brockmeyer, a young girl with Cerebral Palsy and in need of a service dog. Randy met Barbie while playing Santa Clause at one of the local flea markets. He was so moved by her story that he offered to help her raise the $7,000 it would take for her to receive the service dog. With help from family and friends The Brockmeyer’s had already raised $ 6,500 of the $13,000 needed for the dog.
Randy wrote the original story about Barbie on Monday, December 22, 2009, and posted it on the MiddletownUSA.com and MainStreetMonroe.com web sites, in the hope that some people in the community would see the story and want to help. What happened next was unexpected.
On Tuesday, December 23, 2009 Randy was contacted by Karin Johnson from channel Five News after seeing the story on one of sites and asked if he and Barbie would be available for doing an interview to air on the 5 o’clock news. That interview aired at 5:15 pm that night, by Wednesday, December 24, 2009 Randy and Karin Johnson were contacted by several business owners will to donate to Barbie. But,it was the call from Bill Deimling, president of Deimling/jeliho Plastics in Amelia, Ohio, which made Barbie’s wish come true. Deimling wanted to donate the entire $7,000 to ensure that Barbie received the service dog.
