Middletown High School hosted the 39th annual Middletown Special Olympics on Friday, May 15th. The event brought students from Amanda, Central, Creekview, Highview, Miller Ridge, Rosa Parks and Wildwood Elementary Schools; Vail and Verity Middle Schools; and Middletown High School out to spend the day competing in various events.
"The kids are having a great time. Medals and smiles all around. I don’t think we could ask for a better day,” Barbara Florence, who organized the event, told the Middletown Journal.
Students participated in track and field events such as the long jump and the 100 meter dash and were awarded medals by local police officers and firefighters. During opening ceremonies, Kyron Collins sang the National Anthem and Dillon Blake delivered the Special Olympics oath. Dozens of balloons were released and the American Legion Color Guard led students around the track in a parade.
