Middletown Police Stepping Up Patrol
Thursday, March 12, 2009 2:23:47 PM - Middletown Ohio

Middletown Police Stepping Up PatrolBy: Tara Kunkle

A state enforcement act is allowing the Middletown police department to continue its effort to get impaired and aggressive drivers off the road. There have been additional patrols that are targeting speeding, seat belt and alcohol violations in various neighborhoods and business districts around the city.

Maj. David VanArsdale told the Middletown Journal that there will be three additional officers on duty around the St. Patrick’s Day holiday on March 16th and 17th. This is part of a traffic blitz to deal with impaired drivers. Ohio Highway Patrol will be setting up various DUI checkpoints around the area during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday.

VanArsdale has announced Middletown police will be coordinating with the highway patrol for a local DUI checkpoint on March 27th. The location has not yet been disclosed, but is expected to be announced by the morning of the 27th. The police are asking if anyone sees a criminal or suspicious act over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, that as always, they call police dispatch at 513-425-7700. Remember license plate numbers and descriptions of vehicles or individuals are always helpful.

I would suggest also that the City of Middletown Police Department invest in some additional street officers that are more capable than some that I have came across as of recently. My family and I continue to see the one female officer in particular, either directing traffic or at other business establishments, with behavior not becoming of an officer. When you represent the community and have the safety of the people in your hands, the way you converse to the people, and the type of language used says a lot about that particular person. An officer, of course, is more under scrutiny more than others, as they are supposed to have a "respectful" job, and ACT respectful among the citizens of Middletown. Officer B. Luekhardt certainly does not represent her department with respect. Show some dignity for God's sakes! Cut out the bad language around families and those you represent and have some self respect.

I guess all I can say to this, is go file a complaint with the city or her superior officer there at the police department. I had an issue several years ago, and did this, and things seem to have gotten resolved. I had my own business for many years and would not tolerate any disrespect out of my employees towards ANYONE, especially the general public, as people fail to remember we are being watch all the time. Particularly, if you have a job that attracts the attention of its' citizens, like the police department. It could be this officer is new on the job, or unsure how to handle various situations that might arise on her job. Unfortunately, these people are among us, and with a job such as this, there's no room for not having self control.

All I can say to this is that I can add my own 2 cents here from personal experience, but my advice is to file a formal complaint with the police department. Protecting the citizens is no job for idiots that can't conduct themselves according to the standards and guidelines laid out for them by the Department. I was an officer for many years, retired after 25 years of service in Kentucky. We did not tolerate this kind of disrespect from our officers, and were either reprimanded or placed elsewhere within the department. I'm not sure what Middletown's tolerance level is, but maybe this should all be fowarded to Chief Schwarber ?

These complaints need to go directly to the chief. Chief Schwarber is pretty good about knowing what is going on at the P.D, here in Middletown, but this is a problem with this female officer, and no one is filing complaints on this officer, who obviously is not taking her job seriously, then then it's going to continue, and nothing will be done about it. I am unaware of how many city officials look over this website but maybe someone could forward this to the chief, if they know his city email or someone in charge at the P.D. Stupidity doesn't belong in the police department among officers. There's no room for it.
