Middletown Murals Nearing Starting Date - Fund Raiser Planned |

The Middletown Murals project is reaching a milestone. The first of the outdoor historic murals will soon be painted on the south face of the city parking garage over Broad Street. The combined public/private effort will result in art and history on display for all to enjoy. When the downtown mall roof was removed, several buildings were refaced to present a pleasing sight for the public. One area was left unfinished—the portion of the parking garage that spans Broad Street. The non-profit Middletown Murals committee asked the city to wait to finish those surfaces until the mural group had finalized plans for murals on both the north and south side of the garage. Now that enough money has been raised through fund raising projects and donations to paint the first mural, the city will complete both the north and south surfaces and leave them blank so mural painter, Eric Henn, can begin his work in mid-June. With a recent donation of $5,000 from the Miriam Knoll Foundation, there is almost enough money in the Mural fund at the Middletown Community Foundation to paint the second mural—on the north side of the parking garage. Next week, Rising Phoenix Theatre Company will present the play “Steel Magnolias.” When the dress rehearsal performance is held at the Temple Art Center, 4 N. Main Street in downtown Middletown, on Wednesday, May 7, the proceeds from the “pay what you can” night at the theatre will be donated to Middletown Murals. This is another example of two local arts and entertainment organizations joining forces to help each other and the community.
