Christmas Giving in Full Swing
By Rose Morgan
All over the country the worker bee/elves/cooks are mixing butter, sugar, and flour. They are producing tons of cookies, cakes, and candy for the enjoyment and celebration of Christmas. We shower our friends and family with our love in the form of 'goodies'.
The First United Methodist Church in Middletown Ohio uses the occasion for a 'Cookie Walk'. The cooks of the church make dozens and dozens of their best cookies and candy. The cookies are brought to the church where they are sorted and displayed on long tables. Lightweight brooms and cleaning cloths are sold also to add to the proceeds. The doors of the church are open on a Saturday before Christmas to allow anyone who so desires to enter and purchase these wonderful creations. The cookies find their way into homes and offices all around the area.
Proceeds from the sale - this year in the neighborhood of $1200 - go to support local missions. A wonderful addition to the money collected in other United Methodist Women projects.
