Middletown City Manager Update To City Council October 7, 2009
Thursday, October 8, 2009 10:23:36 AM - Middletown Ohio

Middletown City Manager Judy Gilleland

Weekly Update to City Council

from the City Manager
October 4, 2009

Nuisance Abatement Money

As you may recall, our original budget for nuisance abatement and weed mowing was $75,000, and we’ve spent it all.  We came to Council a couple of months ago to request an additional appropriation of $15,000 (staff originally asked for $25,000 and I lowered the request to $15,000 in an attempt to be mindful of the budgetary situation).  We will be requesting another $7,500 in the form of an emergency appropriation at the October 20th meeting for work through the end of the year.  We are still receiving a lot of high weed complaints.  All in all, spending less than $100,000 this year in nuisance abatement to keep our community tidy, is not bad.

Golf Course Greens

Unless I hear otherwise from majority of council, I am not planning on approving an $86,000 project to improve 4 greens at the golf course.  This project was not planned in the capital budget this year, but we will be including it in the requests for 2010.

The greens could be lost if we do not take action this year to renovate them.  This could cripple the golf course in terms of play, but these are the types of decisions that we are faced with given our budgetary situation.  The greens in question are:  #5 Woodside, #5 Meadows, #9 Valley View, #4 Highlands.
