The Middletown Board of Education is seeking interested candidates to replace Dr. David Kabithe who recently resigned his seat on the Middletown City School Board of Education.
The appointed Board member will serve the remaining two years of Kabithe’s four year term. Interested persons should submit a letter of interest stating their reasons for wanting to sit on the Board of Education, and a resume, to District Treasurer and Board of Education Secretary, Eric Sotzing, 1515 Girard Ave. Middletown, OH 45044 or esotzing@middletowncityschools.com by 5:00 PM on Monday, December 3, 2007.
The Board will meet after the submissions have been collected. According to Board policy, the remaining four Board members must appoint a fifth member by December 20, 2007. “We will also seek input from the two newly elected board members who are scheduled to take office in January,” said John Venturella, Board President.
According to the Ohio School Board Association, a Board of Education is responsible for providing the best educational opportunities possible for the youth of the community. The Board sets educational goals and establishes policies for the district based upon state laws and community values.
One of the Board’s most important responsibilities is to hire and evaluate the performance of the district's superintendent and to hold him or her responsible for effectively leading the school district. The Board depends upon the superintendent to implement district policies and goals and to hold the staff and students to high expectations. The Board also hires and evaluates the performance of the district's treasurer and holds him or her responsible to the highest levels of fiscal accountability.
