Middfest International Records High Heat and Large Crowds
Monday, October 8, 2007 11:08:19 AM - Middletown Ohio

The 2007 Middfest International featuring The Netherlands closed a three-day event with 90 degree temperatures—a first for the annual cultural event which has run since 1981.

Even though the outdoor temperatures were high, the guests came in large numbers. According to Event Director Virginia Ritan, “While no official count is yet available, food vendors left happy at their sales figures and the beer vendor sold out.”

At times, the plaza area near the Miller Stage would seem vacant but the audiences had simply relocated to the shade  of the surrounding buildings and trees. Audiences were enjoying the music and dance as much as ever.  A few performances were relocated to shady areas and went on as planned.

A guest survey taken throughout the weekend revealed that Friday night visitors to Middfest came mostly from Butler and Warren Counties. Saturday those statistics shifted dramatically showing that people came from other areas. The numbers for the three days were 76% from Butler/Warren Counties, 16% from other Ohio Counties and 4% from other states (including 1% from other countries).

Also supporting the theory that many people return year after year and talk about Middfest to their friends, 89% said they’d learned about Middfest through word-of-mouth, with 11% getting their Middfest information from newspapers, TV, flyers and other methods.

Middfest planners are already looking toward the 2008 Middfest International and will be announcing the featured country within the next month.

We look forward to Middfest every year.We make plans for the whole weekend.I am disappointed that people here complain about the mere $5.00 to get in.Where can you go and pay $5.00 and see all the entertainment and displays for that price and go back for 2 more days!(a movie costs what $7 or$8.00 and thats for hardly 2 hours -- how much are concert tickets now-- $25.00 or more and thats usually for bad seats and only 2 groups play and if get tickets online you pay a huge fee for that.
For those of who did not attend for whatever reason you missed a good time from the Rednose Band to the Belly Dancers to the Ark Band (a raggae band from Columbus). The man who made wooden shoes was great to talk to and the guy who had the Redtail Hawk was extremely interesting as was the Oxen owner.
I am however disappointed that not one of the city commissioners showed up for the start of the fest--wonder how they will feel when I show up to vote BUT not for them! They are to busy moving this whole town out to the east end near I-75.
I would like to ask the people of Middletown "Where can you go and spend time outdoors with your friends, eat, and listen to great music and talk to people from other countries for the small cost of $5.00?" If they lowered the cost to $3.00--would you support this event? How many of you know that the Brazillian dancers have been here for about 10 or 11 years-- they LOVE Middletown its a shame the people that live here dont feel the same.
As for me and my daughter-- Middfest is a bargain at$5.00. We meet someone new every year and look forward to seeing the old friends we have made from previous years.
One thing for sure I didnt waste my money on a bad movie nor did I sit in a concert near high or drunk people that were rude or loud--I spent 3 days listening to great music seeing colorful costumes and talking to people I would not have met otherwise -- and sat stage left for 3 whole days all for $5.00--thats about $1.68 a day.Oh yes food prices werent that different than they were last year either! See all you Middfest die hards next year
