Miami University Regionals Artist Series will present two artists this October. Performing on October 7 will be Esperanza Spalding, a Grammy-winning jazz bassist, vocalist and composer. On October 20 the theater will present American Folk singer Arlo Guthrie.
Esperanza Spalding showcases a beautiful multi-lingual voice and uncanny instrumental talent. At the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize ceremonies, she performed at Oslo City Hall in honor of 2009 Laureate President Barack Obama. She was hand-selected by Obama as per the tradition of one laureate-invited artist to perform. Spalding performed again at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. In 2011 Spalding received a Grammy Award for Best New Artist, one of the music industry’s most prestigious prizes. Esperanza Spalding will perform on October 7 at 7:30 p.m.. All seats for her performance will be $35.
Arlo Guthrie is known for singing songs of protest against social injustice, much like his late father: Woody Guthrie. One of his best known works is Alice’s Restaurant Massacre. Join Arlo in Dave Finkelman Auditorium on October 20 at 7:30 p.m.. as he pays special tribute to his father’s 100th birthday celebration. All seats for his performance will be $35.
