HERE COME the RASKALS!
The City of Lebanon will be overrun with RASKALS on Saturday, November 5, 2005. Random Acts of Simple Kindness Affecting Local Seniors, RASKALS, is recruiting volunteers to offer outdoor cleanup for persons 60 and over who are not able to accomplish these outdoor tasks themselves. Volunteers will spend all or part of the day on November 5th, raking leaves, clearing gutters, cleaning windows, cleaning and putting away outdoor furniture, and clearing yard debris.
“Even though it still looks like summer outside, this yard work and home cleanup time will be here before we know it,” states Rochelle McGowan, Lebanon RASKALS coordinator. McGowan encourages older adults who have difficulty with these annual fall chores to call 695-2237 for a program application. “We really want to help seniors with some of these simple tasks that prove too much for them to do alone,” states McGowan.
Volunteers will work in groups of 2 to 10 and anyone 12 or older can volunteer. Volunteers have included trained handymen, families, church groups, youth groups, high school and college students and just good neighbors. Youth will need an adult volunteer to supervise. The spring event was a very rewarding experience according to many of the volunteers who assisted with RASKALS. Persons interested in volunteering for the fall event can call 695-2237 for more information and an application.
The program is a joint effort of Warren County Community Services, Inc, the City of Lebanon and a very dedicated group of community volunteers. United Way has provided partial funding for the project.
RASKALS is a program that benefits the entire community. The program seeks to match seniors in need of some outdoor work with those persons looking for a limited volunteer opportunity. Call 695-2237 for more information on the RASKALS services or volunteering.
