JOHN SAUTER WILL RUN FOR MIDDLETOWN BOARD OF EDUCATION SEAT

John J. Sauter, recently retired Chief of Middletown Division of Fire, announced today he will be a candidate for the Middletown City Schools Board of Education.

Sauter served for 30 years on the Middletown Fire Department, retiring in 2007 after seventeen years as chief. He is a life-long resident of Middletown, a 1974 graduate of Middletown High School and has been active in school and community projects throughout his life.

“Schools should be a safe haven for our children, a place where they learn how to live in this world. It is our duty as adults to provide the financing, the facilities, discipline, qualified teachers and total community support to make it possible for our children to graduate with the skills they need to be successful in their lives,” Sauter said. “I believe it is time for all Middletown citizens to help improve our community. I believe I can serve this purpose by filling one of the upcoming vacancies on the school board.”

Sauter has worked his entire life to provide that safe haven for all Middletown citizens, particularly the children. He has been involved in many ways as a Fire Fighter and Chief not only fighting fires and saving lives but participating in school fire education programs, inspections, career days, Junior Achievement programs and more.

In the community he has been a past president of both the Middletown Rotary Club and Middletown Safety council. He served other groups as a board member, officer or volunteer such as: Middletown Chapter of American Red Cross, Junior Achievement, Middletown Habitat for Humanity, Middletown High School Musical Arts Association and recent school levy campaigns.

Professionally, he has served as a testing officer for those seeking advancement in many fire districts and as a member of  the Butler Tech Fire Advisory Committee, Butler County Emergency Management Agency, and Fire Chiefs Associations at the local, state and international level. During his years as a firefighter, he was named the 1985 Firefighter of the Year by the Middletown Life Underwriters and won the 1992 Employee Achievement Award for the City of Middletown.

Sauter’s wife Cindy, is a 27 year veteran teacher in the Middletown City Schools.  Daughter Callie is a 2007 graduate of Middletown High School. Ashley Sauter will enter MHS as a freshman this fall. Both daughters have benefited from the district’s GATE, Advanced Placement and extracurricular programs. The Sauter family lives on Quail Run Road and is active in the First Presbyterian Church.

John is anxious to continue his community service as a member of the Middletown City Schools Board of Education.

John J. Sauter would be a wonderful addition to the Middletown school board and should consider speaking to other communities. His comments about school funding and children's education are some of the best I have heard and need to be heard by communities throughout Ohio. John J. Sauter stated: "Schools should be a safe haven for our children, a place where they learn how to live in this world. It is our duty as adults to provide the financing, facilities, discipline, qualified teachers and total community support to make it possible for our children to graduate with the skills they need to be successful in their lives,"
Adults need to look at what is important - education - and if they do not agree with Ohio's way of funding schools, they need to contact their local representatives & senators immediately. Governor Strickland is listening to all ideas to help Ohio’s funding crisis.
Mr. Sauter should also contact the Governor with any ideas, concerns, etc. on this matter.
The Governor will respond.
This issue needs to be fixed as soon as possible and it seems the Governor is still looking for answers and any suggestions on this matter. Thank You.
