The Sudden Death Softball (SDS) organization was recently granted the license to operate Lefferson Park by city officials. The Middletown Youth Softball Association however does not agree with the decision. They have operated and maintained the park since 1999. The Middletown Youth Softball Organization (MYSA) also operates Goldman Park which also includes the Dream Catcher League for the disabled.
Ed Richter from the Middletown Journal spoke with Denny Gross who is the MYSA vice president who compalined to the city park board that the city "took the park and gave it to another organization". So far the MYSA is appealing the decision. After the matter was brought before the city board they will review the situation and hope to come up with a recommendation within the week.
The agreement to let SDS operate Lefferson Park gives them the right to schedule activities which include; practices, games and tournaments, use proceeds from the concessions, and use gate fees along with participation that will be reinvested into the park’s maintenance.
