Citizens Comments Down 75% Since TV Removal
Monday, January 7, 2008 11:01:17 AM - Middletown Ohio
by Bill Rogers

TV Middletown Ohio Citizen CommentsSince Middletown, Ohio City Council voted to remove citizens' comments from the televised portion of the Council meetings in May of 2007, the number of comments being made have dropped drastically -- more than 75% fewer comments have been made this year than last.

2007 Mayoral Candidate Gary Barge is the most outspoken citizen in Middletown, having made 12 comments in 2006, and 7 in 2007. A piece of his campaign platform was that he wanted to bring citizen's comments back to the televised portion of the broadcast. Overall, 131 comments were made in 2006, compared to only 33 in 2007, over the months of May through December.

Our new Mayor Larry Mulligan has no strong feelings on TV Middletown one way or another. If most of Council is for bringing comments back to TV Middletown, he would support the motion. Many Middletown residents feel that removing comments from the televised portion took away the voice of the people.

It is so nice to see the new councilmembers.
Middletown is no different than the rest of the country, it's definitely time for things to change. George w.Bush has done something positive,he's made people care more than ever about there cities, states, government.
Even with some of the members who have long severed the city, you can just see the renewed passion for there jobs, Ican say now you can see the light. For years we have gambled our future on the steel industry, now we have the perfect chance to totally put ourselves in
a new direction-healthcare........
we have a new hospital, we can use the healthcare system as our tool to get out of the slump we've been under. II'm a life long resident 37yrs old I was thinking of relocating, but with the hope that our city becomes a healthcare hub my possibilites as well as others
can finally become realities and not just dreams. good luck council members and don't forget you have been given the opportunity to really make a change in the world, use it to your best advantage hopefully positive, help bridge the gap betwween old and young, help our black young men there is a plague in the black community with our black men if they are not encouraged, made to feel a part of society I am in no way blaming anyone I am black I love my blacks as well as whites mexican,etc....................
alot of the blacks in our town feel like our voices donot count, donot matter so they give up and resorts to the streets .
As far as the rest I trust in my council, I m bringing this to your attention because it one of the problems in our city .i
