AK Steel Earns International Automotive Quality Recognition Tuesday October 21, 4:24 pm ET
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AK Steel Corporation (NYSE: AKS - News) said today that all of its steel plants have been awarded ISO/TS 16949:2002 Quality Management System certification. "Our employees' dedication to produce the highest quality automotive steel products has resulted in AK Steel achieving this stringent quality standard," said James L. Wainscott, AK Steel's president and chief executive officer.
ISO/TS 16949 is a new international quality management system standard developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) and the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) in conjunction with the international standards community. Domestic automakers have requested that their suppliers attain the new certification.
In presenting the certifications, Peter B. Lake, president of SRI Quality System Registrar, said "AK Steel's certification shows their automotive customers worldwide that AK Steel is committed to supplying quality steel products and services."
Receiving the ISO/TS 16949 certification are AK Steel facilities in Middletown, Coshocton, Mansfield and Zanesville, Ohio, Ashland, Kentucky, Rockport, Indiana, and Butler, Pennsylvania.
Headquartered in Middletown, AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel products for automotive, appliance, construction and manufacturing markets, as well as tubular steel products. In addition, the company produces snow and ice control products and operates an industrial park on the Houston, Texas ship channel. The company has about 10,000 employees.
