AEIF Executive: IAM VICTORY!

FROM YOUR EXECUTIVE BOARD
July 27, 2006

IAM VICTORY!

A convincing 57% of the voting AEIF membership has chosen the IAM as their collective bargaining representative.  Following 2 days of voting, the NLRB polls closed at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon.  The ballot count started at approximately 1:30 p.m., and was completed by approximately 4:00 p.m.  The results for the 1856 ballots counted are:
IAM 1056
USW 790
AEIF 10
No Union 0
TOTAL 1856

We offer our sincere thanks to all members who participated in the election process.  We also thank the IAM for the tremendous support and assistance they have given our membership to date.  We will always be proud of our independent heritage, but we are equally proud now to be known as FIGHTING MACHINISTS.

The parties now have 7 days to file objections to the conduct of the election; otherwise, the results of the election will be certified by the NLRB.   We hope that neither the USW nor AK Steel will file any objections which we firmly believe would serve only to delay inevitable certification.

Upon certification we will become AEIF/IAM Local No. 1943.  We encourage all of our members to review our Transition Agreement with the IAM.  It is available on the IAM website: www.goiam.com

Most importantly, we intend to return to the bargaining table as soon as possible - with the full participation, support, and expertise of the IAM International - to secure a competitive and equitable labor agreement, and to bring an end to the lockout.

- Your Executive Committee
