After the failure of the May levy, district officials reduced the amount of the levy request by $1.5 million dollars because of a “possible increase in funding from the State.” The possibility is now reality.
On June 30, Governor Strickland signed the new state budget which increases the amount Middletown City Schools will receive by $1.5 million over the next three years: $500 thousand the first year and $1 million the second and third year.
We are pleased to announce that this increase allows the district to recall nine teaching positions to active status. As of today, fifteen teachers have been called to reclaim their positions. However, nine of them declined because they accepted jobs in other districts. Today, the Board of Education approved the return or transfer of teachers in the areas of high school Math, Science, Social Studies, Music, Speech, Academic Intervention, and Technology. The District is still in the process of recalling a high school English teacher. The district will post job openings for middle school Science and high school Math.
